About My Personal Journey

My personal journey is shared with my husband, Robert. Together we have explored (and gotten lost in) many foreign countries and U.S. states; we even spent one year traveling all over the world. (You learn a lot about your partner when you live together in hotel rooms for a year!).

I grew up in a small town in Northwest Ohio and graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Until recently my husband and I have lived in a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC. We now live in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire and are enjoying the process of becoming part of a new community.

I have a wide variety of interests including traveling, reading, gardening, canoeing, skiing and making various craft projects. Currently I am learning to knit, the perfect craft for someone who likes both the analytical and the creative!

Since this site is about the journey of life, here are some of "souvenirs" I have brought home from my travels:

  • The best adventures happen when I prepare and have a plan and then recognize when I need to change or ignore my plan.

  • I get the most out of an experience when I take time to reflect on what I have just experienced. On every journey I need plenty of time to sit on a bench, sip a cappuccino and watch the world go by.

  • The easiest and most effective way to spark my creativity or get "unstuck" is to try something new or to clean out a closet.

  • My parents have given me many wonderful souvenirs. Here are my two favorites: things can be replaced, people can't (thanks Dad) and I am lovable and capable (thanks Mom).

  • Unexpected stuff happens. I can only control my actions and attitude. Trying to control other people is ineffective and exhausting.

  • Many of the happiest people I know have experienced a serious crisis or tragedy. The best party I ever went to was one where most of the guests were cancer survivors. They had learned the hard way how to celebrate every day.

  • If I pack it, I better be able to carry it. Not only does this apply to my luggage, it also applies to my beliefs, attitudes, and judgments about others and myself.
