by
Angela M. Zakon

Remember playing the game "going on a treasure hunt". You are given a list of items or people to find and a set amount of time to find as many as possible. The person with the most items at the end wins the game. Think of marketing your business as a treasure hunt game where your product or service is an item on the treasure hunters’ list. Your goal is to make it easy for the treasure hunters to find you. You can accomplish this by communicating with the treasure hunters directly or communicating with people who know the treasure hunters. You need to be visible for the treasure hunters to find you.

The following exercise will assist you to increase your visibility. First make a list of all the ways that people can currently learn about your business. Then make a second list of all the possible ways you could use to let people know about your business. Next set a new goal to either make a certain number of contacts per week or try a certain number of new approaches each week. Be sure to pick approaches from your two lists that feel good to you and reflect how you want to be known. Remember you want to help the treasure hunters by making yourself easy to find!
