The Coaching Journey

  1. Introduction
  2. What is coaching?
  3. Is coaching for you?
  4. How does coaching work?
  5. Getting Started

I love to travel and have been to many places around the world. Every journey I have ever taken, including the ones inside of myself, has included elements of planning, preparing, heading out, exploring and returning home. Each stage doesn't progress the same way every time, but these elements are always present to some degree.

The following is a brief list of considerations for each stage of a journey. A coach is your partner as you move through each stage of your life journey.

Planning:

  • Figure out where you are going
  • Figure out where you want to go
  • Develop a vision

Preparing:

  • Develop a strategy to reach your destination
  • Develop a time line for action
  • Lay the groundwork (i.e. prepare finances, learn new skills, etc.)

Heading out:

  • Take the first steps
  • Test your plan
  • Reevaluate your plan as needed

Exploring:

  • Execute your plan
  • Stay focused on your goal
  • Reevaluate your plan as needed

Returning home:

  • Celebrate your success/experience
  • Integrate what you learned
  • Start the process again

The most generalized reason why anyone works with a coach is because they want to make a change. It could be a personal or professional change, one change or many changes. A coach is your ally during all the stages of the journey of change.

"I soon realized that no
journey carries one far
unless, as it extends into
the world around us, it
goes an equal distance
into the world within."
- Lillian Smith
